SRI LANKAN DANCE 

Sri Lanka is very beautiful country. The art of dance in Sri Lanka can be described as an element that enhances its beauty. The art of dance in Sri Lanka includes Kandyan Dance , Low Country Dance , Sabaragamu Dance as well as folk dramas such as Sokari and Kolam as well as Sinhala Folk dances.

♦ KANDYAN DANCE

Kandyan Dance is widespread in the Central Province. There are Kandy, Udunuwara, Yatinuwara, Harispaththuwa, Satharakoralaya.....etc. It's main ritual is Kohombakankariya. In addition, there are Wakiyakuma. Many of the things in Kohombakankariya can be see in Kandyan dances. Gataberaya is the main instrument in Kandyan dance. Costume of Wes is the main costume in Kandyan Dance. Kandyan Dance is now prevalent in the entire society. There are very beautiful dances in Art of Kandyan Dance.

  

Ex:- Kohomba Asnaya, Kuweni Asnaya, Yakanuma

♦ LOW COUNTRY DANCE

Low country Dances is in the Ruhunu area of Sri Lanka. There are Galle, Matara, Hambantota.....etc. It's main ritual is Devol Maduwa. In addition, there are rituals such as Riddiyaga, Sanniyakuma, Suniyamyaaga.....etc. Yakbera is main instrument in Low Country Dance. Costume of Telme is the main costume in Low Country Dance. There are many beautiful dance in Art of Low Country Dance.

Ex:- Dewol, Surabawalliya, Paththini

♦ SABARAGAMU DANCE

Sabaragamu Dance is in Sabaragamu Province in Sri Lanka. There are Rathnapura, Balangoda, Kagalle... Daula is main instrument in Sabaragamu Dance. Costume of Pabalu is main costume in Sabaragamu Dance. Pahanmaduwa is main ritual in Sabaragamu Dance. In addition, there are rituals such as Kumarasamayama, Garayakuma, Kirimaduwa.....etc.

♦ SOKARI FOLK DRAMA

Sokari is folk drama. Sokari belongs to the Kandyan Dance. Currently in Haguranketha, Matale, Kotuwegoda, Pathahewahata, Badulla, Dambulla. There are many characters in this drama. Some of the actors Wear masks. Sokari is main character in this drama. Gatabera is main instrument in Sokari drama.

• Wedaral
• Paraya
• Soththana

These are actors in this drama. The rural feathers of this play can be seen.

♦ KOLAM FOLK DRAMA

Kolam is folk drama. Kolam is comic folk drama. Kolam belongs to the Low Country Dance. Kolam is in the Ruhunu area of Sri Lanka. Many characters wear marks. But Potheguru doesn't wear marks.  There are poems, dialogs, drumming can be seen. There are many stories and characters in this Kolam.

♦ SINHALA FOLK DANCE

Sinhala Folk Dance was built related industries. These folk poems were created for entertainment as well as to relive fatigue, sorrow and loneliness. Later dance was added to it.

Example for:-

• Kalagedi Dance 
• Kulu Dance 
• Goyam Dance 
• Leekeli Dance

This dance is very simple dance. This dance is engaged in dance as a group folk dances show the identity of the culture of Sri Lanka. There are simple poems, simple steps, simple costumes, simple drumming, simple instruments can be seen. Sinhala folk dance is very beautiful dance.

Due to the multicultural society of Sri Lanka, Tamil dances such as Bharatha Natyam, Kavadi, Kolattam and Chembu can be seen.

 MY GRANDPARENTS

My grandparents are my mother's mother and my mother's father. They are very good. My grandmother is Ariyawathi and she is about 65 years old. My grandfather is Sirisena and he is about 70 years old.

My grandmother is very kind and she is not greed. She is perfect for her children as well as other children. She loves to me so much. When I visit her, she makes my favorite things. My best friend is my grandmother. I can tell everything with her. Grandma finds it a little difficult to walk now. But she does her work alone. She doesn't like to trouble to her children.

 

My grandfather is kind. But he is stubborn. He doesn't like to yield to others. He is very strict. He gets angry quickly. But he loves to me very much. He is always looking for my needs. When I don't have money to go to classes they give me money to go to classes. He cried for joy when I selected university. His only hope is to see me get to a better place.

Apart from my parents, my grandparents can be described as people who were wholeheartedly happy in every success in my life. My parents and they were behind everything I did. I wish they could meet again in the next life. I love my grandparents everyday.

👩MY ROLE MODEL  👩

 

My role model is my dancing teacher. She is Ashini Shanika Disanayake. She is 30 years old. She is married. She is teaching in Somadevi Maha Vidyalaya in Sewanagala. She is very beautiful and very kind. She is teaching dancing to school students.

 Teacher can dancing very well. She is graduated in  University of Visual And Performing Arts in Colombo. It is  my university. She was specialized Department of Low Country Dance. She can create dance creatively.

She is a mother who went beyond a teacher to us. We could tell every thing with her. She is an exemplary woman. She teaches us various lessons from her life.

She was with me in my sorrows as well as in my joys. She gave me a hand where I fell. She is not a teacher but a God to me. My teacher personally gave me invaluable values. If I were in this place today I could  introduce my teacher as that one person. I owe a lot to my teacher when you brought me to this place. I love my teacher so much.

👭MY DEAR SISTERS 👭

I have two sisters in my family. My elder sister is Akarsha Sathmini Rathnayake. She is in G.C.E.A/L in 2022. She is studying in Commerce. She is   very clever. She is very silent and innocent girl.

My younger sister is Varsha Oshani Rathnayake. She is in grade 8.She is vey cleaver for music, dancing very well. She is very talkative girl. 

The three of us fight at any time. My mother disburses in every time. But we love us. But it does not show. I can not live without my sisters and my sisters can not live without me.

We help with homework and school homework.  We are always joking. Sometimes we cry because of that.

I miss them so much. I'm waiting to count fingers for them to come to class and school.

I love my sisters a lot. My hope is that one day the both will become good citizens. I will help them.
